The basics
About prenatal care
During pregnancy, hormonal changes loosen the ligaments that support your pelvis and sacroiliac joints, while the growing baby steadily shifts your center of gravity forward. This combination places new, uneven loads on the lumbar spine, hips, and pelvis — often showing up as low back ache, hip tightness, pelvic girdle discomfort, or sciatic nerve irritation that runs into the buttock or leg. These are among the most common physical complaints of pregnancy, and they can build as the weeks go by.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy focuses on restoring gentle, balanced motion to the spinal and pelvic joints so your body can adapt more comfortably to the changes ahead. The Webster Technique — a specific chiropractic analysis and low-force adjustment — addresses sacral and pelvic alignment and the surrounding soft tissue. Techniques used during pregnancy are adapted for safety and comfort — they avoid high-velocity force over the abdomen, and positioning is modified as your belly grows.

What is prenatal chiropractic care?
Prenatal chiropractic is gentle, pregnancy-adapted care for the spine, pelvis, and sacroiliac joints. As your baby grows and your posture shifts, the joints and muscles that support you take on new and often uneven loads — leading to the back, hip, and pelvic discomfort that affects so many expectant moms. Chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy use modified, low-force techniques to restore balanced joint motion and ease that built-up tension, drug-free and without putting any stress on the abdomen.
The Webster Technique is a well-known prenatal chiropractic technique. It addresses the sacrum and pelvic joints specifically — restoring alignment and releasing tension in the surrounding ligaments to help reduce the pelvic discomfort that often comes with late pregnancy. At Hopson Chiropractic, Dr. Lana Hopson, who sees patients at our Chandler office, is Webster Technique certified.
Your positioning is adapted so you can lie comfortably at any stage of pregnancy. Prenatal techniques avoid high-velocity force over the abdomen, and every technique is chosen with your safety and comfort in mind.
What to expect
Your first visit begins with a thorough conversation — your trimester, your current complaints, your birth provider’s name, and any relevant history. Your doctor — Dr. William Hopson in Tyler or Dr. Lana Hopson in Chandler — performs a gentle orthopedic and pelvic assessment to identify where tension and restriction are building. From there you’ll get a plain-English explanation of what was found and a specific, trimester-aware care plan.
During each visit your doctor adapts your positioning to your stage of pregnancy so you can rest comfortably without pressure on your belly. Adjustments are light and precise.
With your permission, we’re happy to share care notes with your OB, midwife, or doula so your whole care team stays informed. Coordination, not isolation, is how we prefer to work.
Who it helps
Prenatal chiropractic is a good fit for expecting moms experiencing:
- Low back pain or stiffness that worsens as the belly grows
- Hip pain or sacroiliac joint soreness on one or both sides
- Pelvic girdle discomfort — pain across the front of the pelvis or around the sit bones
- Sciatica — shooting, aching, or burning pain from the low back into the buttock or leg
- Postural tension and mid-back tightness from the forward shift in center of gravity
- General spinal tightness and stiffness that limits comfortable movement throughout the day
If you’ve been told by your provider that you have diastasis recti, placenta previa, or another condition requiring restricted activity, please bring that information to your first visit so we can confirm chiropractic is appropriate for your specific situation.

What it helps
Conditions we treat with prenatal care
What is prenatal chiropractic care?
Prenatal chiropractic uses gentle, pregnancy-adapted adjustments to restore balanced motion to the spine, pelvis, and sacroiliac joints. The goal is to ease the musculoskeletal discomfort that commonly comes with the physical changes of pregnancy — back pain, hip tightness, pelvic girdle pain, and sciatica — using techniques specifically modified for expectant moms.
Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?
Chiropractic care is generally considered appropriate during pregnancy when provided by a chiropractor trained in prenatal care. Both of our doctors are certified in prenatal chiropractic and use low-force techniques with no high-velocity force over the abdomen. We review your pregnancy history before beginning any care.
What is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and gentle adjustment of the sacrum and pelvis, combined with soft-tissue work on the associated ligaments, designed to reduce pelvic tension during pregnancy. Dr. Lana Hopson, who sees patients at our Chandler office, is Webster Technique certified.
Will you coordinate with my OB or midwife?
Yes, with your permission. We believe collaborative care is best during pregnancy, and we're happy to communicate with your OB, midwife, or any other member of your care team so everyone is informed and aligned on your plan.
Does it hurt?
Prenatal adjustments are gentle by design, using light, controlled force rather than forceful thrusts. Your doctor checks in with you throughout every visit, and techniques or positioning can be changed at any time if something doesn’t feel right.
How many visits will I need?
It varies by trimester, your specific discomfort, and how your body responds. After your exam, your doctor will recommend a schedule and explain the reasoning behind it, and that schedule is reviewed and adjusted as your pregnancy progresses.
When in my pregnancy can I start care?
Chiropractic care can be appropriate in any trimester, including the first, and in Texas you don’t need a referral to see a chiropractor. We assess your individual situation at your first visit and tailor your care to your current stage of pregnancy.
Will insurance cover prenatal chiropractic?
Coverage varies by plan, and chiropractic benefits during pregnancy differ from one insurer to the next. Call our office and we’ll go over your options before your first visit so you know what to expect.
Can chiropractic help with sciatica during pregnancy?
It may. Sciatic nerve irritation is common in pregnancy as the pelvis widens and the baby's position shifts loads onto the lower back and buttock. Gentle pelvic and lumbar adjustments can reduce the joint and tissue tension contributing to that pain. We're transparent about what to expect and refer out if needed.
Do you see patients after birth, too?
Yes. Chiropractic care after delivery — including a pelvic and spinal assessment — is a natural extension of prenatal chiropractic. Both of our doctors are also certified in pediatric chiropractic if you'd like a gentle wellness check for your newborn.

What our patients say
“Healing hands is how I describe Hopson’s chiropractor, made me feel so much better. I been in pain for years”
“Dr. William Hopson is very personal and professional. The first session is educational and thorough and includes X-rays. I have seen several other chiropractors and have experienced several different approaches to trying to solve my lower back pain and occasional neck and shoulder pain. After the first session with Dr. Hopson, I could tell I would finally have relief from chronic nagging lower back pain. I was skeptical that the relief would last so I returned for maybe one or two more sessions and my lower back pain has not returned for several months now!! I still visit his office on the rare occasion just to assure that no pain ever returns. I wish I could leave this review on all the competitors in town to save others the expense and time in pain. I can't recommend Dr. Hopson's chiropractic services enough!!!”
“He is very professional and good at what he does.”
