Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions Tyler and Chandler patients ask us most about chiropractic care.

Common questions

New to chiropractic, or just have questions before your first visit? Here are clear, no-pressure answers. Still not sure about something? Reach out — we are always happy to help.

What does a chiropractor do?

Chiropractors diagnose and care for problems of the spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system. Using gentle, hands-on adjustments and supporting therapies, we help restore movement and ease pain by addressing the root cause — not just the symptom — without drugs or surgery as the first step.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic adjustments are generally safe for most people when performed by a licensed chiropractor. We begin with a thorough history and exam to make sure care is appropriate for you, and we tailor the technique and force to your age, comfort level, and condition.

Does an adjustment hurt?

Most patients feel little to no discomfort. You may hear a soft "pop," which is simply gas releasing from the joint. If you are sore, tense, or prefer low-force care, we offer gentle and instrument-assisted techniques.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No. Texas allows patients to see a chiropractor directly, so you can book with us without a physician referral. Some insurance plans set their own referral rules, so if you plan to use insurance, call our Tyler or Chandler office and we'll go over your options.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and your goals. After your exam, your doctor will explain what they found and recommend a care schedule that fits you — and you are always welcome to ask questions before deciding.

Will my insurance cover chiropractic care?

Many health plans include some chiropractic benefits, but coverage varies by plan. Call our Tyler or Chandler office before your first visit and we'll go over your options, so you know what to expect before care begins.

What conditions do chiropractors help with?

Common reasons people see us include back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, disc problems, whiplash and auto-injury, sports injuries, and poor posture. Care can also support everyday mobility and overall wellness.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

For most expecting mothers, yes. Gentle, pregnancy-adapted chiropractic care is widely used for back, hip, and pelvic discomfort. Both of our doctors are certified in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic, and Dr. Lana Hopson, at our Chandler office, is Webster Technique certified.

Can children and babies see a chiropractor?

Yes. Pediatric chiropractic uses very light, age-appropriate pressure to support comfort and posture, and every visit is tailored to the child. Both of our doctors are certified in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic, and we always keep parents involved.

What should I expect on my first visit?

Your doctor will listen to your health history, perform a thorough exam, and explain what they find in plain language before recommending any care. Ask about our $49 New Patient Special (Consultation, Exam, X-Rays, & First Adjustment).

What is the popping sound during an adjustment?

That sound is called cavitation — a small release of gas, like bubbles, from the fluid inside your joint. It is normal, painless, and not your bones cracking. Some gentle techniques produce no sound at all.

How is chiropractic different from massage or physical therapy?

They overlap and often work well together. Chiropractic focuses on restoring proper joint motion and nervous-system function through adjustments, massage targets soft tissue, and physical therapy emphasizes rehabilitative exercise. Alongside adjustments, your doctor may use soft-tissue techniques such as myofascial release or trigger point therapy.

Once I start, do I have to keep going forever?

No. How long you continue care is always up to you. Your doctor will explain what they recommend and why. Some patients choose occasional wellness visits once their original concern has improved, but that is a personal choice, not a requirement.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes — Hopson Chiropractic welcomes new patients of all ages at our Tyler and Chandler offices. You can request a time online or call the office nearest you, and ask about our $49 new patient special when you book.
